La Fiesta de Independencia de Mexico
ASSCA's signature annual event, El Grito 2026 celebrates Mexican Independence Day with a free, family-friendly gathering in downtown Austin. The evening features the historic reenactment of El Grito, live music, traditional food vendors, art exhibits, a poster contest, and a vibrant community celebration.

Celebrating Austin's International Connections
This annual, family-friendly event celebrates Austin's international connections through a Parade of Cultures, live performances, and educational booths representing Austin's sister cities. The gathering begins at City Hall and continues to the Austin Central Library, where the main festival takes place.

Wine Community Exchange
In November, a delegation connected to Austin's wine community travels to Coahuila to strengthen cultural and regional ties. This visit creates opportunities for exchange, relationship-building, and collaboration around local traditions, hospitality, and shared interests.

Join us for an informal evening to learn more about the Austin-Saltillo Sister Cities Association and connect with our community. A chance for new and future members to meet the current board, learn about ASSCA's mission and programs, and discover ways to get involved.
For generations, Mexican traditions have remained an essential part of Austin's cultural identity. This video showcases El Grito de Independencia, one of the city's most anticipated cultural celebrations, organized by the Austin-Saltillo Sister Cities Association in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Austin. More than a commemoration, the event is a living tribute to history, heritage, and the enduring connection between Austin and Mexico.

July 2026 · Third week of JulyAustin Day in Saltillo
Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico
Held during the third week of July, this annual visit brings an Austin delegation to Saltillo for several days of celebration. The trip coincides with the anniversary of the city of Saltillo, which marks 449 years in 2026, and includes civic, cultural, and community events over a three-day period.

ASSCA joined Austin Sister Cities International for the tenth edition of this free, family-friendly celebration of Austin's international connections, hosting a Saltillo booth with crafts, information, and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.
September 15, 2025La Fiesta de Independencia de México 2025
Republic Square Park, Austin, TX
ASSCA's signature annual event marked the 215th anniversary of Mexico's declaration of independence with the historic reenactment of El Grito, mariachi and Tejano music, ballet folklórico, an artisan market, and food vendors — free and alcohol-free for the whole family, produced with the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin.
July 23 – 26, 2025Austin Delegation to Saltillo 2025
Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico
ASSCA members traveled to Saltillo for four days of civic and cultural events commemorating the city's founding on 25 July 1577, reconnecting with counterparts in Coahuila and taking part in the anniversary program alongside Saltillo officials.
May 2, 2025Ribbon Cutting — 5th Street Mexican American Heritage Corridor
Mexic-Arte Museum, Congress Ave. & 5th St., Austin, TX
ASSCA and the official delegation from Saltillo opened the delegation weekend with the ribbon cutting for the 5th Street Mexican American Heritage Corridor, the downtown Austin route that recognizes the contributions of Mexican and Mexican American communities through public art and signage.
May 3, 2025Saltillo Day in Austin 2025 — Festival

The 2025 edition of Saltillo Day in Austin was celebrated at Republic Square Park as part of La Fête de Cinco de Mayo, a joint celebration of Mexican and French cultures in downtown Austin, where ASSCA welcomed visitors at its booth alongside the wider festival program.
March 15, 2025Arts & Parks Bike Tour
Wooldridge Square to Republic Square, Austin, TX
A free, four-hour community ride through downtown Austin connecting parks, murals, and public art along the way. The tour started at Wooldridge Square and finished at Republic Square Park, the historic home of Austin's Mexican independence celebrations.

Consul General of Mexico Humberto Hernández Haddad and Adriana Menchaca Vargas hosted the year-end reception, bringing together ASSCA members, city officials, and partner organizations to close a year of Austin-Saltillo collaboration.

The 214th anniversary of Mexico's declaration of independence was celebrated with the traditional reenactment of El Grito at Republic Square Park, with mariachis, ballet folklórico, and an artisan market. Free admission, presented with the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin and the City of Austin.
